Who is Sukanya Mondal?
Sukanya Mondal is known to be a primary school teacher. She is also the daughter of TMC leader Anubrata Mondal. Suknaya Mondal lives with her family at Bolpur in the Birbhum district of West Bengal.
Her father, who served as the President of the TMC's Birbhum district unit, had got arrested in a scam case in August. The multi-crore smuggling case involves a transfer of unaccounted money that has been subjected to crime proceeds in West Bengal, as per reports.
She came under the radar of the CBI after one of its officers got a whim of the two companies she is associated with and the source of funds she has under her name, which seemed unaccounted for. Mondal serves as the director of ANM Agrochem Private Limited and Neer Developer Private Limited, which are both under the scanner of the ED and the CBI now.
CBI's Probe Into Sukanya Mondal
The agencies are also conducting a parallel probe into the cattle smuggling scam. Mondal's companies are under question because they are believed to be the channel through which rime proceeds and unaccounted money deposits have been taking place.
The CBI recently presented a charge sheet where it mentioned that Mondal's annual income saw a massive increase from Rs 3.10 lakhs in the financial year 2013-14 to Rs 1.45 crore in the year 2020-21. Apart from this, Mondal also has an FD of Rs 3 crore.
The ED further stated that they are looking to question Sukanya Mondal on account of various properties that have been registered in her name, most of which have been purchased at fairly lower prices than the market prices, and have further been sold at much higher prices.
Her father is currently in prison at the Asansol correctional home in West Bengal. He is a close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has extended her support o the family, stating that they are innocent and the cases are nothing but political vendetta.
