Samina Baig, a mountaineer, has climbed K2, the second-highest mountain in the world, becoming the first female Pakistani to do it. Prior to this, in 2013, Baig climbed Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. The 31-year-old also has climed the Seven Summits.

A statement from Baig's team on the ground read, "We are extremely proud to announce that Samina Baig, with her strong Pakistani team, successfully summited the world's most fascinating and dangerous mountain, known as Savage Mountain, this morning at 7:42 am. Savage Mountain is the second-tallest mountain in the world and Pakistan's tallest mountain, K2." The statement also said, "Grateful and blessed that K2 allowed her to stand atop this incredible peak."

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Baig on the achievement. He tweeted. " Congratulations to Samina Baig and her family on their accomplishment as the first female mountaineers from Pakistan to climb K2, the world's second-highest peak. Samina Baig has emerged as a symbol of Pakistani women’s determination, courage, and bravery."

Who Is Samina Baig:

- Samina Khayal Baig, a high-altitude mountaineer from Pakistan, is 32 years old. In 2013, she climbed Mount Everest at the age of 23, and by 2014, she had reached all seven summits.

- Baig hails from the Pakistani Gilgit-Baltistan village of Shimshal in Hunza Gojal.

- She started climbing when she was just four years old, while her brother, Mirza Alishe, started training her in mountaineering when she was 15 years old.

-She started climbing professionally in 2009 when she was just 19 years old. In 2010, Baig became the first person to summit Chashkin Sar in Pakistan, which has since been renamed Samina Peak in her honour.

- On May 19, 2013, Samina Baig climbed Mount Everest for the first time. In order to promote Indo-Pakistani friendship and peace, she was assisted in her ascent of Mount Everest by Indian twin sisters Tashi and Nungshi Malik. They placed the national flags of India and Pakistan side by side atop the peak.

-In addition to the Himalayas, Baig has worked as an adventurer and mountain guide in the Hindu Kush and on the peaks of the Karakoram.
