Who is Sally Nugent: Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Dominic Raab on Wednesday stirred up controversy after remarks he made about the concept of misogyny on a television interview. In a chat with BBC Breakfast presented by anchor Sally Nugent, Raab said, "misogyny is absolutely wrong whether it's a man against a woman or a woman against a man."
Nugent was quizzing the minister on the issue of making misogyny - prejudices that affect women specifically - a hate crime in the UK, in the wake of the Sarah Everard murder and trial. There is wide debate in the country about women's safety after the brutal killing of a woman by a cop (who was recently given a life term) earlier this year in March.
Not immediately, but a while later on the interview, Nugent circled back to Raab's comment about misogyny, saying, "I just want to clarify something you said... The dictionary definition of misogyny is hatred against, directed towards, women."
That prompted Raab to talk about how "inciting hatred, intimidation, harassment" were already offences and the focus should be on enforcement of existing law.

Many on social media are applauding Nugent for offering clarifications in follow-up to Raab's remark, which is being taken as a misrepresentation of misogyny. Some online are of the view Raab was entirely uninformed of the proper meaning of the concept.
There is outrage from many sections in the UK for Boris Johnson's ruling conservative party, in light of their apparent opposition to making misogyny a hate crime, especially since Liberal Democrats and the Labour Party are favouring the move. Raab's comments have only added fuel to fire.
