The nominations announced by Biden is a part of his initiative to tackle climate and transportation matters effectively in the country across key agencies. This includes the Department of Transportation, Department of Energy, Department of Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Interior.

Biden also announced his intent to nominate Faisal Amin, the current Deputy Director of Office of Administration in the Executive Office of the President. The President intends to nominate Amin in the position of Chief Financial Officer of the Environment Protection Agency (ETA). Biden also plans to nominate 12 members of his administration for this, out of which three have been announced.

Who Is Meera Joshi?

  • Meera Joshi is one of the two Indian-American women nominated by US President Joe Biden for the position of key administration. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
  • Joshi is an attorney with over 16 years of practice. She has a lot of experience in leading government oversight agencies. Joshi was also Chair and CEO of New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. This is the nation’s largest for-hire transportation regulator.
  • In addition to her government positions, Joshi served as General Manager for the New York Office of Sam Schwartz Transportation Consultants. She was also a visiting scholar at New York University’s Rudin Center for Transportation Policy.
  • Joshi has joined the administration from the very first day of the Biden presidency on January 20, 2021. She was appointed the position of Deputy Administration and Senior Official of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on the same day.
  • This nomination is a promotion for Joshi. She has been nominated for the post of Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in the Department of Transportation by Biden on April 14.
