For her father who is a farmer in Olpad area near Suraj, Gujarat, sending her to America was not easy in terms of the heavy cost of the course. As someone who used to transport passengers, Patel's father had seen many planes land and lift off the earth's surface. Moved by his little girl's dreams, her father sold a piece of his land to fund her training. He also made sure to put Patel through private school, as per reports.

She has completed her schooling from Metas Adventist School in Surat and left for United States to complete her training after that.

During an interview with India Today, Maitri Patel said, "When I was 8-year-old, I saw a pilot and a plane for the first time. Since then I have dreamt of becoming a pilot. After completing class 12th with science, I went to America for training. I finished my 11-month long training and became a commercial pilot."

Patel's mother works at the health department of Surat Municipal Corporation. Talking about her daughter's success, she told India Today, "We are so happy that she realised her dream at such a young age. We are really happy."

Her father said that Patel has worked very hard and her success is a result of that. Maitri Patel wants to fly Boeing Aircraft for which she will soon start training. As per media reports, she is yet to get Indian pilot license.
