Iman Vellani, a Pakistani-Canadian actor, will essay the role of Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel, Marvel Studio's first superhero of Pakistani origin. She will play the part in upcoming Ms Marvel series and will reprise her role in the next Captain Marvel movie. The Official Twitter account of Marvel Studio's posted a live-action video in which scenes from the upcoming Ms Marvel could also be seen.

The video also has interview clips of the creators Bisha K Ali, the head screenwriter and executive producer, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and others who talked about the iconic character Kamala Khan and how Iman Vellani really fits the part.

Bisha K Ali, who has written Kamala Khan's character for the screen said, "Ms Marvel is a new kind of superhero but at the core of all of it her story is so universal." She talked about how this story will introduce a new family into the wider universe of the Marvel Comic Universe.

The video also revealed the team of directors who will help bring the comic book story to the screen and they are Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon.

Kamala Khan and her superhero alter-ego Ms Marvel first entered the Marvel Comic Universe in 2015 comic series. She was created by G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphon. It was the first marvel comic series with a Muslim superhero. The character, Kamala Khan is a Pakistani-American teenager living in Jersey City. She thinks of Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers as her idol hence takes up the title of Ms Marvel.

In 2019, Vellani was a part of Toronto Film Festival's New Wave Committee where she along with 11 other diverse teenage members added special tags to films which resonated with their peers. Vellani had said, " We want stories from different genders and different countries and different people, I think that's really important because then people are going to understand each other. Even if they can't relate to it, you learn from it … Our big goal is to just help people understand other perspectives."
