The sensational case - popularly known as the 'Bali Suitcase Murder' - made headlines in 2014 for its gruesome details and nature of the crime. Mack and her boyfriend Tommy Schaefer were responsible for killing her mother and "stuffing her remains in a suitcase" in Bali, as per Reuters

Schaefer got an 18-year sentence for murder while Mack was named as an accessory to the crime.

The two have a daughter together, Stella, who was born just ahead of their conviction in 2015. Mack was 19 at the time and was reportedly permitted to keep her daughter in Kerobokan until two years after her birth. An Australian woman took custody of the child until such time that Mack was released from jail.

Reports suggest the child will return to the US with Mack on Tuesday.

As per CCTV evidence, there was an argument between 62-year-old Wiese-Mack and the couple in the lobby of a hotel they were staying at shortly before the murder took place. Wiese-Mack's battered body was found inside a suitcase in a taxi. Mack and Schaefer were arrested a day later.

Reports from the time say Schaefer testified at his trial that he struck Wiese-Mack after she attempted to strangle him upon hearing of his daughter's pregnancy. Mack assisted him by sitting on the suitcase, in which her mother was stuffed, to help in closing it.

Mack and her mother shared a difficult relationship and Wiese-Mack had raised the issue of physical assault by her daughter multiple times with cops in Chicago.
