PM Modi interacted with the Olympic bound players including Elavenil Valarivan among others on July 13 to motivate them for the upcoming Games. The 21-year-old Indian shooter said, "I'm privileged to be a part of it and I wish all the athletes good luck".

Valarivan, who secured a place on India’s shooting team for the Tokyo Olympics in April this year, after Chinki Yadav dropped, will be replacing the quota holding player who had claimed gold at the Delhi World Cup earlier this year.

Currently, she is chosen to lead India’s charge in shooting along with pistol shooter Manu Bhaker.

During the interaction, Valarivan said, "It is an honour to interact with the PM. It was really encouraging and motivating."

According to ANI, she added, "I thank him for interaction with the athletes and I'm privileged to be a part of it. I wish all the athletes good luck for the games."

Who Is Elavenil Valarivan?

Hailing from Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, the young Indian shooter holds the credit of representing India at the 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup and winning a gold medal in the same.

Additionally, she secured silver in the world University Games in the year 2019 following which she bagged Gold at Junior World Cup in Suhl. She has also won the first position at the 2019 ISSF 10-meter Air Rifle world cup on 28 August in Rio de Janeiro, scoring 251.7.

The Indian duo shot a combined total of 16 to earn the gold medal at the Karni Singh Shooting Range in the capital.
