Indian-American tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has announced his bid to run for the US Presidential elections in 2024. Ramaswamy did not just take to his social media to announce his decision, he also made the statement during a live interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News' prime time programme.
Indian-origin Vivek Ramaswamy, 37, is a healthcare and tech sector entrepreneur. He recently announced his candidacy for the US Presidential Elections set to take place in 2024.
Who Is Vivek Ramaswamy?
Vivek Ramaswamy's parents immigrated to the United States from Kerala. Ramaswamy worked at a General Electric factory in Ohio. He describes his early years in a statement saying, “I grew up in Ohio in the 90s as a skinny kid with nerdy glasses and a funny last name. My parents taught me that if you’re going to stand out, then you might as well be outstanding. The achievement was my ticket to get ahead. I went on to find multi-billion-dollar companies. And I did it while getting married – raising a family and following my faith in God."
He took to his Instagram to announce his candidacy. He said that his campaign isn’t just a political but also a "cultural movement to create a new dream for the next generation of Americans.” He continued by saying that aims to continue the pursuit of excellence in a country where only merit and not the colour of a person will determine their character.
"I am proud to say tonight that I am running for president to revive those ideals in this country," he said, in a declaration to participate in the forthcoming election.
After Nikki Haley, he is the second Indian-American to run for president in the Republican primaries. In his campaign for the presidency in 2024, Vivek Ramaswamy pledged to 'put merit back' and break the dependence on China.
Ramaswamy found Roivant Sciences in 2014, and after leading the most significant biotech IPOs of 2015 and 2016, the company has now completed successful clinical studies in several disease categories that have resulted in FDA-approved medications. He has developed numerous profitable healthcare and technology businesses, and in 2022 he established Strive Asset Management, a brand-new company with the mission of reviving the voices of regular Americans in the American economy by inspiring businesses to put quality before politics.
In addition, he is the author of Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America's Social Justice Scam which was published in August 2021, and Nation of Victims: Identity Politics, the Death of Merit, and the Path Back to Excellence, published on September 13, 2022.
Ramaswamy's spouse Apoorva Tewari Ramaswamy is a surgeon and an Assistant Professor at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
