Women today are proving their mettle in every field known to mankind. Acknowledging the strides they have been making, former Indian opener Virendra Sehwag took to twitter to express his ardent desire to have a women's IPL. He wrote, “I think it’s high time we have a Women’s IPL, just like they have Big Bash for women in Australia. Hope @BCCI gives this gift quickly.”

His tweet met with a lot of positive responses.
“We can have an IPL for women, provided we widen the base for the girls. We have enough players to launch such a league. I think India should have taken the initiative when the IPL was started 10 years ago. It has turned out to be a grand concept with entertainment, glamour, name and fame, not to forget the money, making it an attractive tournament.”

She further added that such an initiative will encourage more girls in the country to take up sports as a career. Former cricketer Shubhangi Kulkarni observed that there is good potential for women’s cricket in India. It will give splendid opportunities to players in India to take cricket seriously.
In the past, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has also shown unequivocal support for women's cricket in the country. He wants to see more and more girls take up cricket as a career option. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also appointed him as the UNICEF and Cricket For Good ambassador for the Women’s World Cup 2017.
The kind of encouragement women's cricket is garnering, the time is not far when it will be watched with the same enthusiasm and will receive the same momentum that men's cricket in India gets.
