She has vast experience in the fields of crime investigation, tackling human trafficking and crime prevention.
1. Baruah got her Bachelor of Science degree from Cotton College, Guwahati University.
2. She has been part of the police service for the last 29 years and has earlier served as the first woman Deputy Inspector General(DIG) of Police of Assam. She joined the police force in 1992.
3. The lady police officer got appointed for the Indian Police Service (IPS) as an officer of the 2005 batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre.
4. She has also received the Police Medal for Distinguished Service by The President of India in 2021.
5. Baruah will be assuming rank as Inspector General of Police with effect from January 1, 2022.

6. She was the first DIG appointed for the Bodoland Territorial Area District(BTAD) after the central government signed Bodo Peace Accord with the National Democratic Front of Bodoland in January 2021. BTAD is an autonomous region in Assam.
7.Violet Baruah has also been given Police Medal for Meritorious Service by President on August 15, 2012.
8. In an interview with PTI, she expressed her happiness by saying, "Rejecting a job has never been my style of functioning. That is why I was out of Guwahati (where state police headquarters is situated) for most of the period of my service"
9. She has earlier served as Superintendent of Police for four districts namely- Goalpara, Morigaon, Cachar and Barpeta.
10. Earlier today, she tweeted the announcement through her account, "Promoted to the rank of IGP. Feeling blessed to be the first lady IGP in the state of Assam."
The government notification also announced the promotion of eight DIGs of the state police to the role of Inspector General.
