The “it’s on us campaign” started by former US vice president Joe Biden, aims to fight against sexual assault and to spread awareness regarding the same. And Biden wants you to be part of this effort. Speaking about his organization, It's On Us, he said, "What we're all about is changing the culture of this country in terms of the way we treat women and young girls."

The effort rests on four measures that we should pledge to, in order to spread the awareness and fight against the sexual assault. These are:

To recognize what sexual assault is,

To identify how and when it occurs,

To intervene when we come across such situation and,

To create a safe environment where the survivors are supported.

On a conference call, held on April 5th former vice president said while addressing students and media that he is often asked how he measures victory in the fight against sexual assault. "There's always gonna be violence," Biden said. "Victory will be achieved when not a single, solitary woman who is abused, violated — physically or mentally — asks herself, 'What did I do?"

He added firmly that "It is never, never, never, never the woman's fault. It is never the woman's fault. No man has a right to abuse women under any circumstances! Period."

This pledge is a personal commitment to help keep women and men safe from sexual assault.

Biden has always been known for advocating women rights. In 1994 when he was a Delaware senator, he introduced the groundbreaking Violence Against Women Act, the first of its kind package of federal laws formed to prevent sexual assault and violence.

To further continue his campaign and to mark Sexual Assault Awareness month, he asked college students to take action to prevent such violence.

"Everyone has a responsibility to speak up and speak out," he said. "It is within our power to change the culture."
