RSS leader Indresh Kumar has said that the ‘Western’ tradition of Valentine’s Day is responsible for rape, violence against women and illegitimate children. Kumar put forward his views at a training program for RSS volunteers in Jaipur on Friday.

He said that in India, love is sacred and pious, but the West has commercialised it.

“In India, love has been sacred and pious. It has been sung as the tales of Radha-Krishna, Laila-Majnu and Heer-Ranjha but the Western culture commercialised love and gave birth to festival of Valentine's Day which is now responsible for problems like rape, illegitimate children and violence on women,” he said.

He also said that the RSS purifies the soul and character of a person and imparts humane and moral values.

In an interview with news agency, ANI, Kumar even said that the reason behind triple talaq is Western culture.

There's no end to ridiculous statements from Indian politicians. Sample these:

In 2014, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had attributed rape to a boy’s mistake.

"First girls become friends with boys. Then when they have differences between them, girls level rape charges. Boys commit mistakes. Will they be hanged for rape?" he said.

Statements like "90 per cent of rape cases are consensual", made by Dharamvir Goyat, Haryana Pradesh Congress committee member, and “rape cases are on a rise in the country because men and women interact with each other more freely now”, by Mamata Banerjee, show just how far our leaders have to go when it comes to educating themselves and broadening their mindsets.

And most recently, a Rajasthan HC judge creeated uproar by saying that peacocks reproduce from their tears! “A peacock is a lifelong celibate,” said Justice Mahesh Chandra Sharma on Wednesday.
