Animal enthusiast

Dr Sharma is an expert at mollifying ferocious animals such as leopards and elephants in human-animal conflict situations. She has been chosen for the valiance she shows in tackling wildlife.

Speaking to TOI, Dr Sharma said, "I feel greatly honoured to have got the opportunity to work for a cause. This issue is close to my heart. I grew up with my two sisters. My mother, Pushp Lata Sharma, is a woman of strong will and is my role model. She has brought us up single-handedly, as my father, who was an academician at Pantnagar Agriculture Univerity, had expired 13 years ago.”

Importance of the girl child

Dr Sharma is an ardent believer of the fact that families must provide a friendly atmosphere to their girls to help them succeed. She detests when girls or women express their weakness or perceive their gender to be a privilege.

Recently, she had tranquilized a leopard and an elephant.

Giving an insight into the nature of her work, she told TOI,“I am fond of animals, especially wild ones and this is why I preferred deputation as a veterinarian in a tiger reserve. The period of my deputation in the tiger reserve is coming to an end in August this year, but I want to get an extension.”

We wish her luck for her future endeavours.
