Woman shoots selfie with gun: In a tragic case from Uttar Pradesh, a 26-year-old woman was shot dead reportedly while clicking a selfie with a gun that belonged to her father-in-law. The incident occurred in Hardoi earlier this week on Thursday and police are investigating the matter.

The woman, identified as Radhika Gupta, had her finger on the trigger of the gun she didn't know was loaded. The gun went off when she tried to click a photo of herself with it and the bullet hit her in the neck, as per a Times of India report. She was taken to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Gupta's father-in-law told police they heard the gunshot at around 4 pm from the second floor and discovered her hit by a bullet with her camera in selfie mode.

The deceased's father however has alleged foul play in the matter and filed a dowry death complaint as per reports. Gupta was newly married and had tied the knot with one Akash only in May this year.

Police Investigating Matter After Woman Shoots Selfie With Gun, Stunt Goes Wrong

The gun in question was reportedly in the possession of local police until July 22, deposited there by the family in view of the state panchayat elections. As per the deceased's father-in-law, his son Akash retrieved the gun from the station around 3 pm that day.

An hour later, they allegedly heard a gunshot from the floor Gupta was on. The gun and Gupta's phone both have been sent for forensic examination.

As per reports, the Shahabad SHO said they found Gupta's photo with the gun in her phone's gallery, believed to have been clicked just prior to her death.

Recently, India saw a spate of consecutive dowry deaths reported from Kerala that made major national headlines, bringing the issue to a renewed spotlight. 24-year-old Vismaya Nair's death in June was among the cases that drove reform at the state government level against dowry harassment and domestic violence. India reportedly witnesses an average of 20 dowry deaths per day.
