Rangeela actor Urmila Matondkar is likely to be Shiv Sena’s pick for the state legislative council. Reportedly Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has given his green signal.

Urmila Matondkar’s name is to be among 12 candidates that are nominated by the Governor to the state legislature’s upper house on the recommendation of the state government.

As per Indian Express, Sena’s chief spokesperson and MP Sanjay Raut confirmed the news. “Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has spoken to Matondkar and she has agreed to be nominated by the Sena.”

46-year-old Urmila Matondkar is not new to politics. A year ago she contested the national election as a Congress candidate from Mumbai North constituency. She lost the election. Later, she quit the Congress citing lack of support from within the party for her political ambitions.

Film stars have been an integral part of politics around India. Shabana Azmi, Hema Malini, Rekha, Jaya Bachchan among many others have been part of the national political scene in Rajya Sabha. Bachchan is still a member of the Rajya Sabha from Samajwadi Party. In Bengal, there’s Nusrat Jahan, an actor who is with the Trinamool Congress.
