The fact that the cab company is highly responsible for the gruesome crime that took place on Saturday, is not debatable. But would banning the cab company be the answer? Women everywhere in the city feel unsafe, may it be buses, autos or roads. The problem needs to be addressed at a more grassroot level to ensure women feel safe in Delhi.

Following the Uber rape incident, according to DCP (north) Madhur Verma; action has been taken against the company for its negligent conduct. Under Section 420 of IPC (cheating) and Section 188 of the MV Act, legal action is to be taken against the cab company. Invoking Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) is also being contemplating.

According to the law in Delhi, a female employee has to be accompanied by a security guard when travelling alone in the cab. This too, could be used against the cab company. According to a report by Times of India, the police were told by a company official: "They said they were merely cab aggregators and that they leave the verification of the drivers to the cab companies (who have a lease agreement with them) to get the background checks done."

The police also said, "They said only when they get a comentire team's hearts go out to the victim of this despicable crime. We will do everything, I repeat, everything to help bring this perpetrator to justice and to support the victim and her family in her recovery." According to Uber, they give an iPhones 4S to the drivers with the Uber app from the phone which can't be deleted. However, when the phone is switched off, the GPS tracker is disabled.
