Transgender Person Shot Dead at GTB Enclave In East Delhi

On Saturday evening, a 40-year old transgender person was reportedly shot thrice outside her house by two unidentified men. The incident took place at East Delhi’s GTB Nagar Enclave. The police are trying to identify the suspects and no arrests have been made yet. Senior officers said, the reason behind the murder is yet unknown.

A Senior Police officer told HT, “He was shot thrice and left for dead. A police team that reached the spot rushed him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination is being done and a case of murder has been registered.”

According to the police, the incident took place between 8.30 pm and 9 pm. The transgender person, Ekta Joshi, got off her car when two men allegedly shot her in public view and fled. One of Joshi’s friends was with her when she collapsed on the spot. Her friend rushed her to the nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Ekta Joshi was a native of Uttarakhand. She stayed with Anita, another transgender person in the GTB Enclave. The reason behind the murder is not yet known however, the police reportedly suspects personal enmity. Moreover, during the investigation, it was also found that Ekta and Anita recently renovated their house and partied two days ago as reported by Lokmat English.

DCP Amit Sharma (Shahdara) told TOI that,“Statements of the witnesses have been recorded and multiple teams formed to identify and arrest the suspects. People known to Joshi, including her family are also being questioned to ascertain the reason behind the murder."
