Tabassum Ara: The Trinamool councillor Tabassum Ara is being slammed by BJP leaders after a viral video surfaced on the internet, showing her injecting COVID-19 vaccine dose to a woman. She is being criticised for administering vaccine doses without any prior experience despite the presence of other specialists in the camp.
Taking to their respective official Twitter accounts, BJP leader Babul Supriyo and Agnimitra Paul shared the video which garnered over 55,000 views collectively in less than 12 hours. The viral clip recorded at the Kulti vaccine camp, shows the councillor giving the vaccine shot to a woman.
The TMC leader Tabassum Ara initially claimed that she has done a nursing course in school, opposing critics that claim she has no experience.
However, she changed her statement later and said that she did not give the vaccine at all, instead, she was just holding the syringe in her hand.
"I did not give any vaccine. I was only holding the syringe in my hand," she is heard saying in a video, "There are a lot of people who are hesitant of taking the shots."
According to a report, Tabassum Ara claimed that she was just trying to spread awareness by holding the syringe.
Babul Supriyo wrote, "TMC's Tabassum Ara has vaccinated people herself and risked hundreds of lives…Will her political colour shield her from stern punishment?" and tagged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
"TMC's manhandling of the lives of people knows no bounds," fashion designer turned politician Agnimitra Paul wrote in her tweet, "Tabassum Ara, member of the administrative board of AMC, chose to vaccinate the people herself, in spite of doctors and nurses being present there."
Paul, who is a Member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Asansol South added, "Is she even medically authorised to do so?"
