A day after being arrested, Kumar was sacked, an action taken under Union Railways Minister Ashwani Vaishnav's instructions.

The statement read, "The conduct showing disrespect to women construes a serious misconduct, in the process bringing disrepute not only to your own self but entire railways as an organisation".

He was removed from service with immediate effect for "behaviour unbecoming of a railway servant".

Munna Kumar, the TTE from the Begusarai district of Bihar was on leave and travelling to Saharanpur. Kumar was booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 352 (Whoever assaults or uses criminal force to any person), Section 354 A (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) and Section 509 (insulting the modesty of any woman).

The woman's husband filed an FIR at the Lucknow GRP police station. The accused confessed to the crime in the initial questioning.

This incident bears a resemblance to the Air India incident, where a male passenger, Shankar Mishra, urinated on a female co-passenger on a flight from New York to Delhi. Mishra was arrested in January and banned by the airline for four months.
