Three-Year-Old Helps Deliver Baby, Picture Goes Viral

post image

A picture of a three year old girl helping deliver her baby brother has gone viral. Her mother Rebecca Joseloff from New York wanted her to be present during the birth. And the child was actively involved in the whole process. The pictures were documented by her mother’s doula and a birth photographer.

Now the picture has taken the internet by storm.

In the months before the birth, Rebecca prepared her three-year-old daughter by discussing all the things she may see and hear. The two watched birthing videos and Hunter even learnt anatomy and words like ‘placenta’

During the birth, she wasn’t afraid of the blood she saw, says the post on the Facebook group ‘Love What Matters’.

She didn’t cower when her mother roared her brother out and she didn’t get nervous or concerned about it, at all. She asked questions, she played with her babies, she ate snacks, and she kept us all entertained with her adorableness. She held her brother’s head as he crowned, she cheered her mom on as she pushed him out, she rubbed her mother’s hair so gently; as they both gazed lovingly at this new tiny life in front of them.

Hunter even took her shirt off to cuddle with her brother. She was told that brand new babies love the feeling of skin.

“Birth is the most normal part of life; share it with your children and teach them from the beginning, that birth is nothing to fear. Birth is strength,” says Rebecca.

Birth photographer Nicole Lahey, who was present, said that despite the negative opinions of people, she believes that siblings who watch their siblings birth are more connected and compassionate with one another.

Here are some of the reactions the post got:

Many mothers shared similar stories.

Amber Schwieger said that her two-year-old son laboured with her in the tub, her six-year-old cut her newborn baby’s cord. They were with her the whole way from the first contraction, and she believes that after witnessing the beauty of birth, they will be better husbands and fathers.

Cara Oladeji said that her eldest was ten when his sister was born, and he saw her push her out.

The post is going viral with more and more birthing stories being shared every day.
