Telangana Govt. Increases Allowance For Disabled Women By 25%

As per the promises made during the election campaigns, the TRS government had been extending additional benefits through various schemes. The Supreme Court has also recently passed a verdict for the government to give an additional 25% benefit over and above the usual beneficiaries under various schemes.

The Telangana government led by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Chief K Chandrashekhar Rao recently increased the financial assistance to the differently-abled under Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes. Burra Venkatesham, secretary of the Backward Class welfare department has issued the order to enhance the amount for the disabled women from Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 1,25,145.

The addition in the allowance amount has been done by 25% and the eligible beneficiaries under the scheme will receive this amount from the government. In the case of financially poor families, the state government provides Rs 1,00,116 to such families to perform the marriage of their girl child.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders including Chairman of State Corporation for Disabled K Vasudeva Reddy and others expressed their joy for their CM for increasing the amount given to disabled women by pouring milk over the portrait of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. Vasudeva Reddy along with the other TRS activists honoured CM Rao’s portrait near Telangana Talli statue at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday.

Reddy said that families of disabled women are very happy with this move by the government. He added that right after CM Rao came to power, he increased the pension of disabled from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 and now from July onwards over five lakh eligible disabled persons would be getting Rs 3,016.

The state government provides five per cent reservation to disabled people in the double bedroom houses and also enhanced the incentive for the marriage of disabled people from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,00,000. Reddy said that the community of disabled people is with the state government.

“As per the promises made during the election campaigns, the TRS government had been extending additional benefits through various schemes. For instance, about five per cent reservation has been made to differently abled persons in allotment of double-bedroom houses under Dignity Housing program. They are also being given necessary support at all junctures under different schemes,” he added, Telangana Today reported.

Kalyan Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak scheme were launched by Telangana government on 2 October 2014 by KCR which allowed the provision of Rs 51,000 to families from scheduled castes and tribes and later to all poor families in the state. The financial assistance was increased to Rs 1,00,116 on 19 March 2018 from Rs 75,116. It is provided to the bride’s family at the time of marriage to meet the marriage expenses. It is aimed at preventing child marriages and support marriage expense for financially distressed families. By March 2018, the beneficiaries of the scheme stood at 3,50,000.
