UP: 17-Year-Old Thrown Infront Of Train For Rejecting Advances

In a distressing incident, a 17-year-old girl from Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh, who had aspirations to clear the NEET exam, was thrown in front of an oncoming train for confronting two young men for harassing her.

The accident resulted in the loss of her limbs. She lost both legs and one hand and is currently in a critical condition in a hospital, having sustained multiple fractures.

On the evening of October 10, the survivor was returning home from tuition. That was when the two boys started misbehaving with her and when she resisted, threw her in front of the train.

Later, she was discovered in a bloody aftermath, her legs and one hand severed near Kahdau Railway crossing. Subsequently, during the night, she was swiftly transported to Izzatnagar Hospital, where medical professionals conducted emergency surgery.

According to the reports by the Free Press Journal, Dr OP Bhaskar, a physician at the hospital, mentioned that the girl's condition is grave, and rigorous efforts are underway to preserve her life.

The girl is now being shifted to better facilities while the government has announced to bear all the expenses of the treatment.

One of the alleged young men and his father have been apprehended. The state government has declared financial aid of Rs 5 lakhs for the survivor. As per the girl's uncle, the girl is a student at the Intermediate level and attended evening coaching classes.

Allegedly, the two accused frequently subjected her to harassment. The girl's family had lodged complaints with the young man's family about this issue, but it had no impact on the boys' behaviour.

Four officers including an inspector, a sub-inspector and two constables have been suspended for their negligence and a departmental inquiry has been ordered. 

An FIR has been filed against the accused, Vijay Maurya, encompassing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 354 (pertaining to an attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman), 307 (involving an attempt to commit murder), 504 (relating to intentional insult), 342 (concerning wrongful confinement), and 326 (involving the voluntary infliction of serious injuries with dangerous weapons). Additionally, charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been included.
