Tanushka Singh comes from a military family. Her father and grandfather have both served in the armed forces. Though born in Uttar Pradesh, she has lived in Mangaluru since 2007. She completed her schooling in Suratkal and later earned a B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2022.

Initially, she aspired to join the Indian Army, following in the footsteps of her family. However, after learning about the increasing opportunities for women in the IAF, she decided to pursue a career in aviation. She trained at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Telangana, and later underwent specialised instruction on the Hawk MK 132 aircraft, which prepared her for her role as a fighter pilot.

He also credited Tanushka’s grandmother for making key decisions that shaped their family’s journey, enabling her to reach this milestone.

Tanushka’s induction into the Jaguar squadron reflects the IAF’s commitment to breaking barriers and creating more opportunities for women in combat roles. Over the years, the IAF has taken steps to increase female participation in its fighter jet squadrons, and Tanushka’s achievement is another milestone in this progress.

Her success is expected to inspire many young women who aspire to become fighter pilots. With her new role, she will contribute to the IAF’s operations, proving that women are equally capable in high-risk combat missions.
