Suman Rao From Rajasthan Crowned Miss India 2019

Rajasthan's Suman Rao has been crowned Miss India 2019 after she won the Femina Miss India World 2019 Beauty Pageant on Saturday night. The star-studded ceremony took place at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor Stadium. Shivani Jadhav from Chattisgarh won Femina Miss Grand India 2019 title and Shreya Shanker from Bihar won Miss India United Continents 2019 title. The Runner up position in the pageant was won by Sanjana Vij from Telangana.

The 20-year-old will be representing India in the Miss World 2019 pageant in Thailand. The jury of the competition included Bollywood choreographer Remo D Souza, actress Huma Qureshi, Chitrangada Singh, Fashion Designer Falguni Shane Peacock and Indian Footballer Sunil Chhetri, etc. The event also saw dance performances by Bollywood actors Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal and Mouni Roy. Like several other events these days, this one too was hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar, along with actor Manish Paul.

20-year-old Suman Rao has been crowned Miss India 2019. She will be representing the country at the 2019 Miss World pageant, which will be held in Thailand in December this year.

The 56th Miss India

Rao is the 56th woman to be crowned with the Miss India title after Femina Miss India pageant started in 1964. She was crowned by last year winner Anukreethy Vas from Tamil Nadu, on Saturday night.  When you get yourself determined towards a particular goal in life, every single nerve and fiber of your body starts working into that direction for a victorious journey”, she said in an interview, according to Business Insider.

Suman was born on November 23, 1999. She’ll now be representing India at the Miss World 2019, which is scheduled to take place in Pattaya, Bangkok in December 2019. She also won the Miss Rampwalk award during the Miss India competition. Though born in Rajasthan, Suman was bought up in Mumbai and is currently pursuing Chartered Accountancy Course from New Delhi along with B.Com. Suman reveals dancing and pursuing modeling as her biggest passions and is currently learning the classical dance form, Kathak.

During the pageant, she also spoke about the widely prevalent gender inequality and the stereotypes that a girl faces in this world. Speaking about the community that she comes from, she says, "I come from a community where gender inequality and other stereotypes are still into existence, so when I saw two primary choices in front of me, to either accept the conditions those were in existence or to take the responsibility for changing the same, I chose the latter one."

Though born in Rajasthan, Suman was bought up in Mumbai and is currently pursuing Chartered Accountancy Course from New Delhi along with B.Com.

Miss India Who Went On To Become Miss World

In the recent past, Manushi Chillar, went on to win the Miss World title after defeating 108 contestants in the Miss World pageant in 2017. Reita Faria became the first Miss India to win the Miss World Title back in 1966. It took 28 years for the next Miss India to be crowned Miss World when Aishwarya Rai won the title in 1994. She was followed by Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999) and Priyanka Chopra in 2000.
