The Story of the Morning Cuppa
Let us all take a moment to speculate on our daily brew. The Morning Coffee.
An eleventh century tradition, originating in Ethiopia, resonates among cultures amasses. It was in the 16th century that it reached India. A hot or cold cup of coffee along with a good conversation is sometimes what the doctor orders. Steaming hot, or no matter which way you like, coffee is coffee.
As teens turn older, the love for coffee starts splurging out of their systems. The nearing of exams, calls for a coffee! A celebration of good marks, calls for a coffee! A break between lectures, calls for coffee. A lot of young people, obsessed, with documenting the little designs waiters make on the foam. Nothing can match the first sip of hot coffee on a cold day.
“A lot can happen over coffee’’ has become a standard pickup line for a guy asking a girl out. Coffee has found way to be the theme of a popular talk show like Koffee with Karan. And the iconic but fictitious ‘Central Perk’ from FRIENDS is got a cult status.
A college is a place where you’re finding yourself, gently walking into the cold water, before diving in, and coffee becomes like a routine, a best friend. So what is it, that makes a young woman, love her coffee so much? We spoke to a bunch of young college going girls in New Delhi.
In the heart of South Campus in New Delhi, the introduction of a Starbucks, greatly benefits ladies. Just the ideal place to unwind during the long-breaks between classes. Whether you’re on your way to class, or right after one, or at the end of a long day, coffee, is always a good idea.
However, not everyone is a coffee maniacs. ‘Ill get the hot lemon tea,’ says one girl to the Nescafe waitress, who hands her out cup of her tea. ‘Before I even wake up, I need coffee.’ says another tired scholar.
‘Coffee, smokes and diet coke,’ says one fan proudly. ‘It regulates your appetite.’ says another.
‘I don’t know, I just love it, and ill never stop.’
For some, it is a way of breaking the ice. A way of getting to know one another better.
It’s a way, that brings large groups of people, sometimes even small, together, with a sense of tying them to each other, through the initial awkwardness, being able to relate, over a cup of coffee.
For others, it is a night lamp, during the dark times of exams. And for a few, it is a social etiquette.
‘I can’t remember my first cup of coffee, but all I know is I must have my cold coffee’s with one scoop of ice cream, every day,’ says one man with a happy smile.
However, and unfortunately for the coffee lovers, there are the masses, who prefer their Caramel Macchiatos, Mocha Frappucino’s and Green Tea Latte’s over a Double Shot Cappuccino. Some love several other trending beverages on the market right now. As you get older, you prefer a particular brew. It becomes a part of your lifestyle. Some people have coffees only on the weekdays, some people need tea first thing in the morning, and coffee in the afternoon. Some people really don’t’ like coffee at all. The combinations are endless.
One thing is undeniable, is that k the kick of an espresso in the morning is the wake-up call we all need. All these people, whether they love their coffee or not, have tried the drink at least once in their lives, and the sheer universality of the beverage and almost culture of having a cup of coffee is never going to un-trend.
