Late Bollywood actress Sridevi will be honoured in Switzerland, where superhit movie, Yash Chopra’s Chandni, was filmed in some of the most beautiful locales. The authorities are planning install the Indian actor’s statue as a tribute.

“Many of Chopra’s films featured Switzerland as a backdrop and he is credited with boosting the popularity of the Alpine nation among Indian tourists. Now, considering Sridevi’s role in promoting tourism here, there is a proposal to honour the actor by having her statue here,” a senior official said, adding that the statue of Yash Chopra was unveiled in Interlaken, Switzerland, in 2016.

“For many Indian tourists visiting the country today, it is Yash Chopra’s 1995 production Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge that is their Swiss point of reference. Interestingly, for the tourists who happen to be cinema fanatics, there is also a provision to arrange Bollywood packaged trips here,” the official said.

Sridevi, who starred in several memorable Bollywood films, stunned the world with her comeback performance in Gauri Shinde’s ‘English Vinglish’ in 2012. The film was a journey of shattering some serious stereotypes in Bollywood and had a powerful message for the society we belong to.

‘Mom’ was the last Hindi film Sridevi was last seen in. The film was directed by Ravi Udyawar and produced by Boney Kapoor. This was the third film in which the actress collaborated with husband Boney Kapoor after Shekhar Kapur’s 1987 blockbuster Mr. India and Satish Kaushik’s 1993 disaster Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. She was also seen in a Tamil movie titled ‘Puli’ which bombed in the box-office.

Sridevi popularised the locations of Switzerland as many of her popular song and dance sequences were filmed there. The Bollywood star left millions heartbroken after her untimely demise in Dubai earlier this year due to accidental drowning. She was only 55.
