Another Jharkhand Horror: Stage Artist Drugged, Gang Raped In Palamu

A 21-year-old stage performer from Chhattisgarh was allegedly gang raped by her orchestra members after a performance in Jharkhand's Palamu. This comes just days after a Spanish-Brazilian tourist was gang raped in Dumka, Jharkhand.

A 21-year-old orchestra performer was allegedly drugged and gang-raped by her co-artists in Jharkhand's Palamu district on March 2. The woman from Chhattisgarh was allegedly drugged and raped by three men after a performance in the neighbouring state. Two of the accused have been arrested, the police informed the media. This horrific incident comes days after a Spanish-Brazilian tourist was raped by seven men in Dumka, Jharkhand. The foreigner's Spanish husband was also physically assaulted.

The orchestra performer's ordeal came to light on March 3 when she filed an FIR with the Jharkhand police. Officials said that two of the culprits were arrested, while a hunt is on for the third.

Performer Gang Raped in Jharkhand

The 21-year-old performer from Chhattisgarh was in Jharkhand for a performance on March 2 when she was drugged and gang raped by three co-artistes in the car en route to the venue. The accused fled the scene, leaving her unconscious on the street. The incident reportedly happened in the Vishrampur police station area, around 200 km from the state capital, Ranchi. 

The horrifying incident came to light when the survivor filed an FIR against the trio the next day. Two of the accused have been arrested so far. The survivor has been admitted to a hospital in Palamu, where her medical tests will be conducted. 

 Brazilian-Spanish Tourist Gang Raped in Jharkhand

A Brazilian-Spanish tourist was allegedly gang-raped while her husband was physically assaulted by seven to eight men in Jharkhand's Dumka. The incident happened on the night of March 1, when the travellers were staying in a makeshift tent on the side of the road. The seven men allegedly dragged her to a secluded place and raped her while also threatening her husband with a knife.

Four of the accused have been arrested, and the survivor has been granted ₹10 lakh compensation by the Jharkhand police. The Jharkhand High Court has taken suo moto cognisance of the case. The embassies of Spain and Brazil have reached out to aid the woman, a dual national of the countries, made international headlines, highlighting the safety concerns of women in the country.
