SRK, Shah Rukh Khan On Respecting Girls

While promoting his film, Dear Zindagi, the Bollywood Badshah for the first time talked about feminism and said in an interview, “I don’t want to sound pro-feminist and say that these girls have made a beautiful film yaar, but they really have.” Now, in another interview with Femina, he again rejected the concept of feminism.

“If being a feminist means equality, then I’m not one. I believe women should be more than us. If you’re looking at being equal to us, your aim is too low—you’re belittling yourself. From creating life to taking so much shit in your daily life and using it as your strength—the simple act of boarding a local train, being leched at, not getting a job because of your gender—it’s shocking how much a woman has to take every day. As men, we should all experience what it is like and still stay strong. To me you are far superior to men. And I know that if either of my sons ever misbehaves with a woman, I’d behead him,” said Shah Rukh Khan.

The actor, who is now promoting his upcoming film Raees, talked about the women in his life, including his female co-stars, his wife, daughter and mother. He also mentioned how he disciplines his sons to be respectful of women.

Shah Rukh is a self-proclaimed conservative and strict family man where he has laid down some stringent rules for anyone who tries to be his daughter, Suhana’s boyfriend.

RULES FOR DATING SUHANA (SRK'S DAUGHTER)

1. Get a job.

2. Understand I don't like you.

3. I'm everywhere.

4. Get a lawyer.

5. She's my princess, not your conquest.

6. I don't mind going back to jail.

7. Whatever you do to her, I will do to you.

Talking about Suhana, Shah Rukh said in the interview how keen he is on her becoming an actor while still implying the challenges of being a female actor in the industry.

He said, “Suhana is more theatre-oriented and has been doing plays in college. The best part is that she doesn’t want to learn (acting) from me. She wants to be an actor in her own right. She can be an actor if she has the passion and guts to work five times harder than me and get paid 10 times less than I do, if times don’t change for women actors. I want her to experience what my female co-stars have gone through. My daughter will be an actor like them and I want to feel the pain.”

About his sons, the star is pretty clear about how they should behave in front of girls as he is of the opinion that “equality should not be an excuse to lose your chivalry”.

“I tell Aryan that tu-tadak is unacceptable when he’s addressing a girl. ‘Tu pizza le aa’, ‘tu idhar aa’ is not how you address women. Show some respect. Now it’s reached a point where the other day my little one, AbRam, was horsing around with the nanny and he pulled her hair. Aryan was so incensed, he said, ‘Let him turn five and I will discipline him!’”
