The palmist told him that her time of birth was wrong and so, she would bring bad fortune for the family. He also told him that his marriage with his wife could prove to be a hurdle in his dream of becoming an MLA or a minister, as per a report.

Fearing the same, the businessman and his family started mistreating his wife. He wanted to divorce his wife and take custody of his son. Unable to bear the mental torture, the wife lodged a complaint followed by the arrest of the businessman Ganesh alias Kedar Gaikwad, his father Nanasaheb Gaikwad, their family members, and one bodyguard.

The police have registered a case under Sections 498(a), 354, 392, 323, 325, 406, 420, 506, 120(b), 34 of Indian Penal Code along with Section 3 of Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961

Andhashradha Nirmoolan Samiti (ANiS) is a non-government organisation (NGO) initiated by Dr Narndra Dabholkar that condemns such superstitions and promotes rationality among the masses. The workers of this organisation have demanded that the anti-black magic act be invoked in the case.

This is not the first time when superstitions like black magic and bad omen have ruined women's lives. Last year, a childless couple chalked out a plan to kill a girl. As per reports, they believed that eating the liver of a girl would help them conceive a baby boy. They were ardent believers of black magic rituals.

In a bid to fulfil their desire of having a male heir, the couple reportedly paid some money to two people for kidnapping the girl and bringing her liver to them so that the ritual could be performed. Read more about it here.
