Iran has been experiencing anti-government protests since September. It started after the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, who died in police custody after being detained by the "morality police". The police reportedly detained her for not properly wearing hijab. Her death sparked the demonstrations. The demonstrators, who are calling for an end to harsh laws that limit women's freedom in Iran, have been subject to a brutal response by the government.

A group of Iranian actors and filmmakers shot a silent video featuring themselves in it on Monday to express their support for the protesters. Soheila Golestani, an actor and author, appears in the video and joins the filmmaker Hamid Pourazaei in front of the camera. Other actors and filmmakers also joins them one after the another.

In a protest against Iran's hijab law that forces women to wear the hijab in public space, none of the women in the photograph have done so. Everyone is dressed in all black (Colour of dissent) and is boldly staring at the camera.

The Persian caption's approximate translation is "The show is over and the truth is revealed. The unnamed people are our true heroes. We do not point out our errors. Once more, we practise and learn. There are countless ways and hope for a new day, a lot.

All of the people in the video, according to the Iran Wire website, are Iranian actors. Although AFP was unable to quickly confirm the date and location, it appeared to have been shot in a park.

Several Iranian actors have broken taboos by removing their headscarves during the protest movement. Headscarves have been required for women in public since four years after the 1979 revolution.

One of the most well-known performers from Iran still living there, Taraneh Alidoosti, shared a photo of herself on social media earlier this month without headscarf.

Alidoosti vowed to stay in her country at "any cost," declaring that she intended to give up her job in order to help the families of those who were killed or detained during the protest crackdown.
