Sheryl Sandberg’s New Book Talks About Ways to Build Resilience

Life altering events like the death of a loved one can shake a person’s self-confidence. While finding inner strength in the times of adversities can be difficult, robust support from family and friends can help people to recover and rebound. That’s what Sheryl Sandberg’s new book Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy talks about.

Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Social Media Giant -Facebook lost her husband Dave Goldberg to coronary arrhythmia in 2015. Shattered by the sudden demise, she started believing that she and her children will stay griefstricken throughout their lives and wouldn’t be able to experience joy again. Her psychologist friend Adam Grant, however, helped her wriggle out of this difficult situation by recommending her some concrete measures that could heal the family.

The book also sheds light on the various steps that can be taken to create resilient families, communities and workplaces

Recalling the turbulent time when her husband died, she told CNN,

“Going through this … it’s unimaginable. Those early days … months, weeks, I felt like there was this void closing in on me. The grief. I couldn’t breathe. And I didn’t know what to do. I turned to my friend Adam and I said, ‘How do I get my kids through this?’ Because I was so worried their childhoods were going to be wiped away.” She, however, confessed that it was because of her children’s resilience that they could handle this irrevocable loss.
