Who Is Shelly Oberoi? Beats BJP To Become Delhi Mayor

After a fiercely contested election, Shelly Oberoi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the position of mayor of Delhi by a margin of 34 votes over Rekha Gupta of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Aam Admi Party defeated the BJP in the Delhi mayoral elections after three failed attempts by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). With 150 votes, AAP candidate Shelly Oberoi has won the election for mayor of the nation's capital. Rekha Gupta of the BJP fell behind with 116 votes.

AAP's Shelly Oberoi Is Delhi Mayor

Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, praised Shelly Oberoi for winning the mayor's race while also criticising the BJP. He tweeted: "The goons lost, the public won. Sincere thanks to the Delhians once more and heartfelt congratulations to all the workers on becoming the Aam Aadmi Party's mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Many many congratulations to the first Mayor Shelly Oberoi of AAP".

The AAP expressed gratitude to the Delhi voters for their continued support of the party. Amanatullah Khan, the leader of the AAP, announced on Twitter that the Kejriwal-led administration had won the mayoral election.

Who is Shelly Oberai?

In the municipal elections, Ward 86's Shelly Oberoi, a Delhi native, was chosen as a councillor. IGNOU's School of Management Studies is where she obtained her PhD. At several reputable universities, she has served as an assistant professor.

She joined the Aam Aadmi Party as an activist in 2013 after becoming inspired by its philosophy. Two years ago, she was elected as the Delhi State Vice President of the Aam Aadmi Party's women's wing.

Shelly Oberoi had said before the elections,  "I'd like to express my gratitude to the Aam Aadmi Party and Shri Arvind Kejriwal for giving me this duty. We will all work together over the coming months to transform Delhi into the city it could have been."

Dr. Shelly Oberoi, the mayor of MCD, described the priorities as follows: "Ten promises made by the party during the elections will be kept. Delhi will be renovated and cleaned. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, will keep his promises to the public. We will correct everything since the BJP did nothing and left Delhi in a shambles."
