Several media reports stated that Russian soldiers allegedly raped women in war-torn Ukraine. An investigation into charges of rape of a Ukrainian woman was initiated early Wednesday( March 23), according to reports.

After a woman submitted an official complaint, a Ukrainian MP recently stated that an investigation had been initiated. Ukraine MP Inna Sovsun stated in a recent tweet, "Prosecutor General of Ukraine opened the first official investigation of the rape of a Ukrainian woman in Brovary district committed by the Russian soldier."

Earlier, another Ukrainian MP, Lesia Vasylenko, was quoted in several reports as indicating that there were reports of, "Russian troops on the outskirts of Kyiv sexually abusing senior citizens who were unable to flee as Russian armour descended on their towns".

Vasylenko further claimed that many female "senior citizens" had committed suicide in an attempt to escape the violence after being sexually abused. "Others were so vulnerable they could not escape," she said while accusing Russian forces of raping women over 60 years old before hanging them.

Inna Sovsun, a Ukrainian MP, reacting to all the claims said, "We heard rumours earlier, but this is the first time confirmed by the official complaint made by the surviving woman.".

Alleged Sexual Crimes By Russian Soldiers:

Since the Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the office of the Ukraine Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights has received accusations from Ukrainians alleging sexual crimes committed by Russian military soldiers, according to Ukrayinska Pravda.

Despite the fact that local media reported a number of complaints from Ukrainian women in the early days of the Kherson blockade, official Ukrainian agencies received no reports of such crimes committed by Russians. Not just these women, but also world leaders like US Vice President Joe Biden, have accused Russia of war crimes in Ukraine.

Since February 24, when Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on the country, Russia has been waging a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Since then, Ukraine has been in a state of emergency as Russian troops continue to shell and strike civilian targets. Since the invasion began, hundreds of people have died, and millions have left Ukraine.
