Pregnant Serena Williams

Gather around online shopaholics! Looks like the new mom Serena Williams is not labelling herself to only the tennis court. The day when the 36-year-old stepped back into the Grand Slam at the French Open court on Tuesday in a new attire, comparing herself with the ‘Princess Warrior’ of Wakanda, she launched her first online clothing line called Serena.

The 23 Grand Slam winner took to Instagram to share her excitement over her clothing line. She chooses an assortment of denim, dresses, leisure wear wisely for the shoppers.

"They say life is about timing. I learned this lesson at age 18, when I chose to play a light tennis schedule because I wanted to go to fashion school. Some criticized my decision, but I knew I had two loves - tennis and fashion - and had to find a way to make them coexist," she wrote.

"After 15 years of false starts, and people in fashion telling me 'no', it only only drove me to work harder. As a result, I discovered what it meant to invest in myself, and I allowed that belief in myself to drive me to reach my dream.  Today, I am proud to launch @serena, my own online shop. Never stop believing in yourself, you're worth it."

Serena introduces a 12-piece curated collection. Ranges start from $35 to $250 and features and crop tops, joggers, dresses and T-shirts. The ace player kept her hometown of Compton, California, in mind while designing the clothing line.

She yearns to encourage women to express creativity and individuality through their fashion choices.

Serena, in the past too, had indulged in clothing collaborations with women's apparel brand HSN and Nike and Puma. She was also enrolled in fashion school at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, which in her own terms, prepared her to become a designer.

On the game front, May 30 is the day when the Williams sisters —wild cards in the French Open— made a winning start to their French Open doubles campaign, beating No. 14 seeds Shuko Aoyama and Miyu Kato, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

The win was actually the Williams sisters’ first doubles win since they bagged their 14th Grand Slam women’s doubles title together at Wimbledon in 2016. Serena is a champion name at the French Open stage as she prevailed to be a three-time singles winner. She is playing her first Grand Slam tournament since winning the Australian Open in 2017.
