Vaccine for disabled persons: According to a release by the Union government on May 27 senior citizens and differently-abled persons will now be able to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus near their homes. Here is how the special facility can be availed.
The 'Near to Home COVID Vaccination Centres (NHCVC)' guidelines mention that the measures have been taken for those who are above the age of 60 and haven't been vaccinated yet or those above the age of 60 and have just received the first dose of the vaccine. The facility will also be available to those who have disabilities due to physical or medical conditions and won't be able to travel. Special centres will be allotted for them.
"The NHCVC for elderly and differently-abled citizens would follow a community-based, flexible and people-centric approach," the Ministry said, "bringing the COVID Vaccination centres nearer to homes."
The Technical Expert Committee, aiming at ensuring vaccination persons having limited mobility due to their physical condition, are in response to the need to increase access by bringing vaccination services closer to the community, according to the release.
The issue also assured that all necessary precautions and safety measures in accordance with the operational guidelines and advisories will be taken care of at the special centres.
The said guidelines have been communicated to all the states and Union Territories by the health ministry.
The vaccination centres will follow a community-based approach where sessions can be conducted at non-health facility-based settings nearer to home. These might include community centres, RWA centre/offices, panchayat ghar, school buildings, old age homes etc.
However, the centre locations will be decided by the District Task Force (DTF)/Urban Task Force (UTF) in order to maximize the reach of services to the target population and reduce vaccine wastage along with causing minimal impact on the existing health services. The NHCVC will be linked to an existing CVC for vaccination purposes. The CVC in charge will be held responsible for the allotment of the vaccine, logistics and human resources.
Moreover, the
special vaccine centres will have a separate room and a waiting area with appropriate facilities for the target group. This will be ensured by providing access to wheelchairs and observation room which will ensure waiting for the appropriate time required post-vaccination.
