SanTina Storm Into Semis Of WTA Finals

Sania-Hingis pair enters semis of WTA Finals

After over a month of controversy, Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis reunited again for one last time. The ‘SanTina’ duo put up their best fight in their first match of the WTA Finals, and stormed into the semifinal by defeating Hao-ching Chan and Yung-jan Chan in Singapore on Friday. Sania and Martina won in straight sets 7-6(10), 7-5 over the sixth seeds in just an hour and 54 minutes.

It’s a celebration moment for the Indo-Swiss pair, who had clinched the title last year, defeating Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro in the final. However, Mirza is the two-time defending champion — she won the title with Cara Black in 2014.  They will face off with the winners of the next match to be played between Andrea Hlavackova/Lucie Hradecka and Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina.

The pair dominated over a long period in women’s doubles before they split in August. The former world No. 1 doubles team has nine titles, including three Grand Slams: 2015 Wimbledon, 2015 US Open and 2016 Australian Open, 11 WTA titles in their names since teaming up in 2015 at Indian Wells.
