The girl had approached the Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench with a petition, hoping for her seat acceptance fee to be waived and the situation to be resolved. Little did she know, help would come to her from an authority no less than the HC judge himself.

Of his own volition, Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh stepped up for Ranjan while hearing her plea and said he would pay the requisite Rs 15000 from his own pocket. The court has further directed the university to admit her and asked her to join the campus later this week for admission to her desired Mathematics-Computing five-year course.

"A bright young Dalit girl student has come before this Court seeking equity jurisdiction to enable to pursue her dream of getting admitted in the IIT, this court on its own has volunteered to contribute Rs 15,000 for allocation of the seat," the judge said, as quoted by NDTV

Ranjan's story has gone won the hearts of many with applause coming in for Justice Singh.

According to Live Lawit was because of her father's ill health that Ranjan was having trouble arranging the seat allotment fee. The court heard that the man had to undergo dialysis twice a week and other expenses were incurred during COVID-19. The father-daughter duo had reportedly even requested the Ministry of Education's Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for a time extension to fill the fee but received no response.

The court has asked the IIT-BHU institution to admit Ranjan and in the event of unavailability of a seat, create a supernumerary post for her (accommodation until such time that a vacant seat opens up for her to join in a regular post).

Reports suggest that upon hearing the girl's plea and the court's response to it, several other lawyers of the Allahabad HC have come forward to offer to fill her entire tuition fee.
