The accolades haven't stopped pouring in for Olympic bronze-medallist, Sakshi Malik after her return to India.  Post a grand welcome by the Haryana government, she has been declared the new ambassador for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign by CM Manohar Lal Khattar.

At an event held in Bahadurgarh town of Haryana on Wednesday, the CM praised Malik for her achievements and announced her ambassadorship. He said that her winning an Olympic medal is the highest award in the country. He also rewarded her with a cheque of Rs.2.5crores and a Group ‘B’ government job on behalf of the Haryana government.

A state-level function was held as part of the celebrations of Malik’s welcome home. Even Rohtak, her city was cheering as one as she reached home.

The CM also gave a Rs. 10 lakh cheque to Malik’s coach Mandeep Singh. Malik requested the CM to also give the same amount cheque to her second coach Kuldeep. Khattar also declared that Malik's village, Mokhra, in Rohtak district will get a new sports nursery and stadium.

This year, 119 athletes went to Olympics from India out of which 20 were from Haryana. The state that churns out so many sportspersons has formulated a new sports policy wherein a gold medallist at Olympics will be rewarded with Rs. 6 crores, silver medallist with Rs. 4 crores and bronze medallist with Rs. 2.5 crores.

The state also faces a concerning issue of lower sex ratio, but with achievers like Sakshi as ambassadors campaigning for BBBP, this will definitely bring a change in the society. It is only when people see that girls can also make them proud, will they consider her as a boon and not a bane.
