Saina Nehwal's second consecutive win at the World Superseries Final

India’s ‘Wonder Girl’ Saina Nehwal keeps up her tempo, as she stormed into the third round of the Dubai BWF's $1,000,000 World Super Series final after winning in straight games over Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun of Korea.

In this second round game of group A, Saina showed no signs of pressure as she scraped up a comfortable 21-12, 21-18 win over her Korean opponent. The two players have a 4-1 record, in favour of our shuttle ace.

This win was a double-whammy for her, as she also won, against all odds, a grueling first round match against her old foe, two-time All England Champion, Chinese Shixian Wang. Our 2011 Dubai finalist pulled off this fete in straight sets too, with an impressive 21-17, 21-18 victory, finally gaining a 6–5 lead over the Chinese, when it comes to career meetings.

Although Badminton is not a very popular sport in Dubai, the 300-something littering the 15,000-seater auditorium was a raucous lot. Saina has never been short of Indian supporters in Dubai, and she has always been grateful to the Emirate for their unwavering zeal in showing up to egg her on.

Even when Saina was faltering at some instances in the two matches, like at 4-8 in the first set against the Chinese, the crowd ensured that they lift her spirits up and get her right back into the game.

Saina fondly refers to Dubai as not only a home away from home, but a home in itself.
