Russian Journalist Oksana Baulina Killed in Kyiv Shelling

As the war by Vladimir Putin-led Russia on the neighbouring country Ukraine intensifies, reports of casualties and loss of life has been coming in constantly. The war has also seen some of the fearless women journalists take the ground to report on the issues faced by people and give the world a constant update on the situation in Ukraine. One of the journalists, Oksana Baulina was killed by the Russian forces.

The Russian journalist, Baulina has been reporting from the Ukrainian capital city Kyiv and the western city of Lviv. She worked for an investigative website called The Insider. The website had put out a statement on her being killed. She died while filming the damages in the Podil district of the city.

In the past, Baulina had worked for Alexei Navalny's anti-corruption foundation. She had left Russia after the foundation was made illegal last year. It was branded as extremist by the Russian authorities and this had forced the staffers of the organisation to flee abroad.

The publication also stated that along with Baulina, one person was killed and two others were injured during the shelling. They expressed their "deepest condolences" to the family and friends of Baulina, the reporter. Another known investigative journalist Alexey Kovalyov also paid tribute to her.

"And now it's someone I've known for 16 years and worked with at several independent outlets. Oksana Baulina, a Russian journalist with phenomenal sense of moral clarity, killed by Russian rocket fire on a reporting mission in Kyiv today. I'm yet to process this," Kovalyov tweeted.

The publication stated, "We will continue to cover the war in Ukraine including such Russian war crimes as indiscriminate shelling of residential areas which result in the deaths of civilians and journalists."

In early March, the camera operator for the LIVE, which is a Ukrainian television channel, Yevhenii Sakun was killed during the shelling of the TV transmission tower in the Ukrainian capital. Sakun also worked with EFE, which is a Spanish news agency.

Two weeks after Sakun's death, the 50-year-old Brent Renaud, who was a journalist from the United States and a filmmaker was shot dead at Irpin, which is outside Kyiv. He was shot dead while filming there.

After two days of his death, two more journalists from Fox News were killed. Cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski and Oleksandra Kuvshinova were killed when their vehicle was struck by the incoming fire on the outskirt of Kyiv.
