Actor Rose McGowan has alleged that someone close to movie producer Harvey Weinstein offered her a whopping million dollars to keep quiet about the fact that Weinstein raped her.

McGowan further said that she received this offer a few weeks before the multiple sexual abuse allegations against Weinstein came out. She had previously signed a $100,000 settlement with Weinstein in 1997 over the incident. She also says that she recently realised that the settlement had not included a confidentiality clause.

When she had first received the offer of a million dollars, she had made a counter offer of 6 million dollars. She thought it would help pay for her career as a multimedia artist. However, after the NYT expose, she decided not to take the offer.

“I was like – ew, gross, you’re disgusting, I don’t want your money, that would make me feel disgusting,” she said.

She is one of the 8 women who have apparently settled with the producer.

“I have been silenced for 20 years. I have been slut-shamed, I have been harassed, I have been maligned, and you know what? I am just like you. What happened to me behind the scenes happens to all of us in this society. It cannot stand and will not stand,” she said in a speech made to the Women’s Convention in Detroit.

Weinstein was recently accused of sexual harassment and abuse of women in the industry. Dozens of women have accused the powerful film producer of harassing them. And three women have accused the powerful film executive of rape. Even men from Hollywood haven’t held back against Weinstein’s behaviours as several surfaced in the public explaining his sexual misconduct.

Hours after she spoke out about being offered money to keep quiet, an arrest warrant has been issued against her, on account of her possession of controlled substances. Belongings left on a United Airlines flight from LA to Washington contained these substances, and reportedly belong to her.

McGowan responded by asking if this is a ploy to silence her:
