Two Men Rob Romanian Woman In Delhi, Blame Pandemic

Delhi police arrested two men for robbing a Romanian woman in Delhi. The police found their lead in a CCTV footage.

A Romanian woman was robbed in Delhi while she was going back to her residence from a bank on her bicycle. Delhi police arrested two men responsible for the crime using nearby CCTV footage.

The complainant Simona Elina Chihai is a resident of Romania reported that the crime took place near Defence Colony flyover, Lajpat Nagar-I. The time was close to 12:30 PM. She was carrying cash worth ₹ 5,000, a Romanian ID card, her passport and other articles in her bag, the police officer said in the statement.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) R P Meena said, "During the investigation, police analysed the CCTV footage and identified the bike. Later, a raid was conducted and both the accused persons were arrested from Garhi, East of Kailash." The two men who were seen wearing helmets came on a bike and stopped her bicycle. The pillion rider pushed the woman and the rider robbed her bag, added the police.

The accused have been identified as Hardik Arya, a resident of Vaishali Sector 6 in Ghaziabad, and Sonu Kumar, a resident of East of Kailash. With their arrest, the police said that three cases, including this one, have been solved. The police further added that they recovered three mobile phones, the Romanian woman's purse containing robbed articles and cash worth ₹ 4,200 from their possession.

In the interrogation, the two accused of theft multiple time blamed the pandemic. One of them was working in a dairy product based company as a manager but lost his job due to the pandemic. The second man also stated the pandemic to be the reason for him losing his job in an IT company. Both the 23-year-old men said that they wanted to fulfil their girlfriend's desires and hence resorted to stealing, according to the police.
