Punjabi Writer Taran Gujral Passes Away At 90

Taran Gujral had witnessed two major events while she was alive. She was just a teenager when she had been a witness to the partition of India in 1947. She had then settled in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh along with her family.

Taran Gujral Punjabi Writer Taran Punjab Passes Away
Punjabi writer Taran Gujral passed away in her Chandigarh residence on Wednesday morning. She was 90 years old and was suffering from various age-related ailments.

Taran Gujral was famous for writing short stories, contributing to children's literature, and also writing poetry. She had published over nine collections of short stories, a book of poems, and books for children.

Taran Gujral was interested in Punjabi folk music

Besides writing, Taran Gujral also had an interest in music and entertained audiences with Punjabi folk music at music gatherings in Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali.

Gujral had witnessed two major events while she was alive. She was just a teenager when she had been a witness to the partition of India in 1947. She had then settled in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh along with her family. Gujral got married in Kanpur.

Later on, she had to move away from Kanpur to Mohali, Punjab with her family after the anti-Sikh riots of 1984 took place.

Taran Gujral has been living in Chandigarh for the last fifteen years since her husband's death. She is now survived by her two sons and their families.

Anil Dharker, the father of actor Ayesha Dharker passed away

Earlier this week, veteran journalist and writer Anil Dharker had breathed his last. He had served as the editor for media outlets such as The Illustrated Weekly of India, The Independent and Mid-day. He was also the founder and director of the Mumbai International Literary Festival

Dharker was also the father of British-Indian actor Ayesha Dharker who has starred in films such as Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and the 2005 film The Mistress of Spices. Her mother Imtiaz Dharker is a notable poet and artist who has been the recipient of the Queen’s Gold Medal for poetry in 2014.
