Prof Geethalakshmi has scripted history by becoming the first woman Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) by Governor R.N. Ravi. The Governor had appointed her for a term of three years from the date of assuming office.

- She has guided 14 research scholars for the doctorate.
- Due to her initiatives, the University could sign 11 memoranda of understanding with national and international institutions.

- 115 research publications in peer-reviewed publications and journals are a part of her other academic achievements. She also authored 11 books and carried out 33 research projects.
- She is also actively involved in organizing various capacity-building training programs.
- Ms. Geethalakshmi said she was the first woman to be appointed Vice-Chancellor of an agricultural university in the country. She added that her aim was to make the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University scale greater heights, as per a report.
Jamia Millia Islamia's First Female Vice-Chancellor
It is heartening to see so many women being appointed as Vice Chancellors of different universities across the country. For instance, Najma Heptulla was recently appointed as the chancellor of the Central University- Jamia Millia Islamia. With this, this Manipur Governor and former Minority Affairs Minister scripted history by becoming the first-ever woman to hold this post at the University. She had been appointed for a term of five years.
Acknowledging her contribution to the political sphere of the country, Mr Ahmed said, “The University will greatly benefit from her rich experience in both political and public life. It will be our privilege to work with her and to learn from her distinguished career in Parliament and internationally.
JNU's First Female Vice Chancellor
In February this year, the Ministry of Education (MoE) appointed Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit as the first woman Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University. She is currently the Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule University in Maharashtra.
“President Ram Nath Kovind, who is Visitor to the University, has approved the appointment of Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit as JNU Vice Chancellor. Her appointment is for a period of five years,” a senior MoE official said. She succeeds Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar. He is now the new Chairman of UGC.
