Pooja Gehlot Bags Gold In Asian Junior Wrestling Championships

Wrestler Pooja Gehlot won gold in the final of the women’s 51 kg event at the Asian Junior Championships in Taichung, Taiwan, on June 16. The Indian team performed well too, bagging five medals, including Pooja's gold.

Wrestler Pooja Gehlot won gold in the final of the women’s 51 kg event at the Asian Junior Championships in Taichung, Taiwan, on June 16. The Indian team performed well too, bagging five medals, including Pooja's gold.

In the women’s category, Pooja beat Japan’s Chisaki Hori 6-5 while Sonu clinched a silver in the 44 kg event. Manju Kumari earned a bronze in the women's 59 kg category.

Among the men, S. Satish clinched silver in the 120 kg category while Manish got a bronze in the 50 kg category and with that it was two medals in the Greco-Roman categories on the second day of the competition.

While Pooja vanquished Chisaki in the final match, with the crowd cheering on, Sonu on the other hand, was dominated by China’s Chen Yumei in the women’s 44 kg final as she went down by 10-4.

The day ended with Manju Kumari clinching the women’s 59 kg bronze medal match where she couldn’t match 10-0 against Kyzy Aibike Artykali.

The final team scores for Greco-Roman were Iran 71, Kazakhstan 58 and India 55.
