The world is witnessing an increase in caseload of patients affected with Omicron variant. The new variant of COVID, also called B.1.1.529, was first identified in November 2021 in South Africa. Its first case was detected in India on December 3, 2021 in Karnataka. However, Ministry of Health clarified to the public that there was no need to panic and adhere to strict COVID protocol.

Government has urged citizens to adopt 'universal vaccine' of wearing mask and maintaining social distancing and hygiene.

More On Omicron India Third Wave:

1. The scientist from IIT, Manindra Agarwal devised a mathematical projection with regard to COVID-19 which has projected that country might be hit by the third wave of the virus.

2. There might be an increase to around 1-1.5 lakh cases in a single day in the country.

3. The effect of the virus this time is anticipated to be milder in nature as compared to the second wave in India. There has been no rise in cases of hospitalisation in South Africa, as per reports.

4. Currently, India has a count of 23 patients infected with Omicron variant with the highest number of cases being reported from Rajasthan.

5. The doctors have reportedly stated that the Omicron patients have shown milder symptoms and they have recovered without any hospitalisation.

6. As per Dr Rakesh Mishra, Former Chief of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology “People are likely to confuse this with the common cold as there is no breathing trouble or loss of smell or taste, which may increase its spread."

7. Doctors have cautioned to increase the testing in this regard and vaccinate the remaining lot of population.

8. As per data from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website, around 128 billion Indian population have been vaccinated against the COVID.

9. Central Government has added Ghana and Tanzania to the list of countries "at risk" on December 7, 2021. Earlier, the list included United Kingdom, and South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong and Israel

10. Self declaration has been made mandatory on Air Suvidha Portal for the international flyers.
