Nitika Kaul Dhoundiyal joins Army: The wife of Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal, a soldier martyred in the 2019 Pulwama attack, has joined the Indian Army on May 29. Now a Lieutenant, Nitika Kaul Dhoundiyal sported the Indian Army uniform for the first time as she joined the force to serve the nation, ANI reported on Saturday.

Reports suggest the 29-year-old, after graduating from the Officers Training Academy, Chennai on May 29, paid tribute to her husband and officially joined the Indian Army as Lieutenant Nikita Kaul Dhoundiyal.

"Maj Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal made supreme sacrifice at Pulwama in 2019, was awarded SC(P). Today his wife Nitika Kaul dons Indian Army uniform; paying him befitting tribute," a tweet by PRO Udhampur-Ministry of Defence read.

Kaul was previously employed with an MNC in Delhi. Six months after the death of her husband, Kaul successfully cleared the Short Service Commission (SSC) exam and the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. She was then commissioned at Officers Training Academy (OTA) at Chennai for her training. They had been married for only nine months when she lost him to the attack of terrorists. He was just 34.
