All the four convicts of 2012 Delhi gang rape case, or Nirbhaya case, will be hanged on March 3, 2020, at 6 am, a Delhi Court has issued fresh warrants today. This is the third time, the Delhi court issued the warrants against the convicts. Additional Session Judge Dharmender Rana at the Patiala House set the new date for the execution.

At first, the date of execution was fixed as January 22, 2020. This was postponed for 6 am on February 1, 2020, by a January 17, 2020 court order. The trial court stated on January 31, 2020, that execution is postponed “till further orders.”  The 23-years old Jyoti Singh Pandey  was mercilessly gang-raped and murdered brutally on December 12, 2012. The incident created ripples around the globe.

“We have struggled so much, so I am satisfied that the death warrant has been issued finally.”

Asha Devi, Jyoti’s mother, said, “I am not very happy as this is the third time that death warrant has been issued.” She further added, “We have struggled so much, so I am satisfied that the death warrant has been issued finally. I hope they (convicts) will be executed on 3rd March.”

Earlier today the court also discharged Advocate Vrinda Grover, who previously represented the convict Mukesh, his mother reportedly asked for a different lawyer to represent him. Advocate Ravi Qazi represented him later. Ravi Qazi was also representing the convict Pawan.

Out of the four convicts, Pawan is the only one who has not filed the curative petition. Akshay filed a mercy petition on February 1, 2020. Previously, Mukesh Singh and Vinay Sharma have also filed their mercy pleas. President Ram Nath Kovind rejected the mercy plea of Mukesh.

The case

In 2016 the juvenile person walked free after spending three years at correction home. Ram Singh committed suicide in 2013 inside Tihar jail. The rest of the convicts are behind the bars.
