The film The Last Color, which is a directorial debut of celebrated chef Vikas Khanna, has made it to the race for Oscars. The film won a place in the line-up of feature films for the Academy Awards.

The chef-cum-filmmaker took to Instagram and Twitter to share his happiness along with a few stills from the Neena Gupta-starrer film. He also wrote a long, sincere post detailing his journey with the decision of taking a leap of faith to debut with the film. “Being a Michelin Star Chef, nobody takes such risks. To start something so new in creative fields, however, some inner voice inside me made me do it. To be eligible for Oscars 2020. (Best Feature Film). To be on this list,” stated Khanna’s caption.

The 92nd Academy Awards will be held on February 9 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy was proposed as India’s official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Explaining further about his experience with the movie, he wrote, “On Ganga’s banks, I wrote the story, screenplay, characters, music and novel of The Last Color as she touched my feet and made me feel alive again & again, singing lullabies to me at night. Everything was a gift from the universe. And today when I saw the list on Oscars – “Eligible for 92nd Academy Awards”, my heart strongly believes that this movie was made through me for some cosmic purpose.”

Actor Neena Gupta who plays the leading role in the film, reacted to Khanna’s tweet and said that she could not fathom that the film is in the Oscar race.

The list was published by the Academy on Wednesday and shared by the makers. For a film to be qualified, it must have opened in a commercial cinema in Los Angeles County by December 31. And established a minimum run of seven consecutive days.

The film was screened at the 30th Palm Springs International Film Festival last year and also at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. It has not got a theatrical release in India. The 92nd Academy Awards will be held on February 9 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy was proposed as India’s official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Produced by Odisha based producer Jitendra Mishra and directed by Vikas Khanna, the film revolves around the lives of widows dwelling in Indian religious sites of Vrindavan and Varanasi.

Upcoming roles played by Neena Gupta

Actor Neena Gupta talked about her upcoming roles, saying, “I’m getting a lot of diverse roles to play now. Some are of mothers, but some are distinctive and have challenging parts. I have completed seven projects, including some web shows already. Panga debuts this month. There is Shubh Mangal Zyaada Savdhaan that I just closed, then there’s Nikkhil Advani’s next that I was shooting for in Patiala. My part in that film is a mystery, but everyone will be amazed when they see me in it.”

“Being a Michelin Star Chef, nobody takes such risks. To start something so new in creative fields, however, some inner voice inside me made me do it.”

Apart from being a versatile artist and proving her vitality as an actor over the years, Neena has also spoken about issues that concern or trouble her. She was the first one to point out how actors her age are not taken in for roles best for them. Instead, younger performers ‘take’ the challenge and try to pull them off by prosthetic and makeup.
